Segment 03

Magnesium oxide and magnesium hydroxide for wastewater pH correction

High-reactivity magnesium oxide and magnesium hydroxide for pH neutralization, metals precipitation, and alkalinity control.

A circular clarifier tank and chemical dosing lines in an industrial wastewater plant.

Magnesium hydroxide corrects pH to a self-limiting 9 to 10.5 band instead of running past 12 the way caustic soda does, so it is safer to handle and harder to overshoot. Our high-reactivity grades close the speed gap while keeping that margin. An NSF/ANSI 60 pathway is available for potable applications.

Trial support

Reactivity requirements vary sharply between systems. We supply samples with full specification data so you can trial against your own residence time and influent.

What decides fit

The technical picture

  • Self-limiting pH is the whole argument

Caustic soda overshoots past 12 and can redissolve metals you already precipitated. Magnesium hydroxide cannot: its own solubility caps the equilibrium near 9 to 10.5.

  • Where reactivity earns its premium

The trade-off against caustic soda is speed. A low-reactivity grade passes through a short-residence system unreacted. Our very-high-reactivity grade closes most of that gap.

  • Sludge, handling and safety

The sludge is denser and dewaters better than lime, so the saving shows up as reduced disposal volume. It is a mild alkali, not a concentrated caustic.

  • Metals precipitation and hydrometallurgy

The same self-limiting behaviour lets a controlled pH climb stop where you need it. A predictable rise beats raw neutralising power here.

Supply

Stocked in the US, verified in the US, documented by MagVanta.

Every grade listed on this page is held in US inventory, verified lot by lot through independent US laboratory testing, and shipped with a MagVanta certificate of analysis, technical data sheet and safety data sheet. You buy from a US company, under US law, at a delivered US price that holds.
